Ebrietas: An Unskilled Guide

Get behind them. It’s a common piece of advice for Soulsborne bosses. But for Ebrietas, Daughter of the Cosmos, it’s especially true.

You can face her head on, there’s a way to do it I’m sure. Yet, for a clumsy oath of a gamer like me, getting to the blind spot of this boss is essential.

And I don’t just mean standing behind them. I mean you need to get really behind them. At the risk of being vulgar, one needs to be so close to the back of Ebrietas that you can see the inside of the character model.

Preparation

So most of my prep is usually ‘get some paper and a big stick’. That’s still true here, but you also want a little bundle of insight. You technically only need 1 insight, but lets have a bunch and assume Ebrietas is going to squish us a few times.

I’ve not employed any summons up until this point. Most guides online will tell you not to. It makes the health bar bigger and they rarely do anything groundbreaking. The few times I employed them in earlier fights, I tried it once or twice and immediately realized they weren’t helping. Most people online will say that Damien is not worth calling in either.

I probably could beat Ebrietas without Damien, but this guide is going to include him, because he makes a great distraction for what we’re about to do. He is not reliable, and this strategy only works on the attempts where he remembers to heal, which is why extra insight is recommended.

Tactics

As well as suggesting a summon, I’m going to advise you to do something else that bucks against normal tips and common sense:

Go in swinging.

Caution is the status quo – “don’t get greedy” – but with Damien offering a distraction that will only last a short time, you are going to run in and start unleashing two handed swings. Your target is the space between her two… leg… tentacle… things. Whatever they are, you want to be between them.

First playthrough. Didn’t have the technique down (I hadn’t learned how close I could get) but you can see the process.

As close as you can get, and swinging as long as you’ve got stamina. Seriously. Go all out. It’s insanely reckless, but whilst her attention is torn she’ll do very little to you in that space. Both times I beat her, the whole fight was less than three minutes. Less than two the second time! Anytime I lost, I was cautious and the fight took longer.

She’ll find ways to buck you. She may charge forwards, she leaps up in the air too. Both times, you do finally need to be a tiny bit cautious, making your way back to where you were. Roll the whole way round. Nevertheless, the more tightly packed you are into her character model, the less she can do to escape you, and when she turns she will move you with her.

If you are stuck in front of her, you can look out for when she headbutts the floor. That’s a nice easy time to get a free swing in. Honestly though, better to get back around her.

Watch Out For

When her health bar is low, she’ll start a sonorous attack that slowly whittles your health away. Don’t panic though. Keep swinging. Heal when it takes off about a third of your bar just to be safe. Then keep swinging. When she’s using this move, she’s still and you can get in a lot of smacks.

2nd Playthrough – Full send. Absolute carnage. Works.
In Other Words
  • Bring a distracting friend.
  • Get behind her.
  • Swing swing swing swing swing.

Of all the advice I’ve given, this is the most reckless. It will not work every time. It so counter-intuitive to just wedge yourself into a boss and attack relentlessly. Yet, for me, going all out and getting this done quickly worked very well.

Keep on Hunting!
