Who named you, Rom?
“Vacuous” checks out – sightless eyes, listless movements, living in an empty void.
“Spider” on the other hand, does not – having many legs does not make your a spider. Did you pick spider? Because it sounds cool?
Preparation
I brought plenty of bolt paper. No other prep needed, other than getting yourself out of auto-locking on to targets for this one.
Tactics
So the main thing here is deciding how patient you want to be.
You can take your time getting rid of some/most/all of the spiders next to Rom, or you can ignore them and just go for it. Neither is better, both have risks.
Personally, I only clear out the first set of spiders. This is because the next sets of crawlies are not ‘that’ problematic if you do as I did, and if he teleports it was a waste of time where you were constantly in danger.
Clearing the first wave out allows you to do the most important part of this fight. Because Rom has no attacks until he teleports, with clear ground you can open up on him with everything. This was one time where I found putting my weapon in one hand was better. The more attacks you have the better; you have a limited time to hit him so big swings doesn’t add up to enough.
Have your paper on, get right up on his midsection, take a breath and go until your stamina runs out, and then blast him if you’ve got a good firearm. You can strike him for longer than you think. Even when he’s vanished you might get one more strike in.
NOTE: to kill the spiders ‘safely’, always go at them from the side and never attack more than two at once.
From now on, I don’t bother going for the smaller ‘spiders’ and I don’t lock on. You are going for a jog.
Never stop moving. Run a wide circle around Rom and Friends. Rom is either going to do a blast near him or drop rocks on you. Either way, roll when you hear the attack go off. If you get nicked, heal and run some more. If not, turn to run towards him.
As the fight goes on the spiders will spread out, so you’re looking for a route passed them to Rom’s tummy. As you serpentine towards him, probably towards his head, he will either get ready to drop rocks or head slam. If he goes to use magic, run and roll back out. If he head slams, run/dodge around to his side and get a hit or two off and then run back out to the wide circle you were making earlier.
Only run in on him at full health. This is because of the damage his area attacks do and the spiders. You might get injured as you bob and weave, but if you’re at full health when you make a charge you’ve got a chance to mess up and make it back out.
That’s essentially the strategy. It can go wrong fast as his blasts do a lot of damage. But this worked for me because it did not give the spiders much chance to get involved, which meant no time wasted on them.
Watch Out For
Honestly, once he teleports, everything he does is a problem, especially the rocks falling from above. But this in-and-out strategy keeps you in front of the hurt, and confuses the smaller critters. The one’s you pass will spread out more and more, making your charge inwards easier.
In Other Words
- Kill spider group 1
- Do as much damage as you possibly can to his tum-tum.
- Jog around in a wide circle.
- Run in between magic attacks.
Keep on Hunting!
