I’m usually so far behind the wave of excitement about a game. I still haven’t got around to Elden Ring, and shan’t be going near it until I’ve finished my backlog and the game is on offer. But with Demon’s Souls, I ended up jumping on that when it first emerged. I can’t remember why, but for once I was the “I was doing X before it was cool” guy.
It’s well known that playing any FromSoftware game gives you a confidence/ability boost for the next game. But for the One Reborn, I was more prepared thanks to a specific boss from Demon’s Souls.
Preparation
The usual bag of elemental papers, and for once another thing: Blood Pellets. I never saw the appeal of these little guys – why would I want to take more damage?! – but here is a boss that can and should be hit fast.
Tactics
So like the Tower Knight from Demon’s Souls, you must ignore the big boss and go to the people watching from the sides. Give a wide birth to the goopy flesh monster and go to either back corner, and climb the spiral staircase.
Take a leisurely stroll along the walkway and eliminate each of the projectile flinging creeps. Do take a quick step back after striking each minion as One Reborn will chuck splash attacks at the wall. When the coast is clear, take a breath in the stairwell, get your paper on, pop a pellet, and then go out to meet One Reborn.
This is a hit-and-hit mission. Circle around him and aim for the tummy area that’s mostly legs. Look up to check for him summoning clumps of goop to drop on you and keep moving. When the attack is done, rush in between a pair of legs and start hacking. Don’t lock on, and if you get kicked, don’t bother healing. The aim here is to hit that tummy as hard as you can. If you don’t do enough, you’ll likely get squished and have to start again…
But what we are looking for is the front half of him to collapse to the ground. Again, much like the Tower Knight, once he drops go for the head. Or in this case, the half a person where a head should be.
And then swing away. You’ll be doing a lot of damage at this point, and you might even cause One Reborn to ‘pop’ again, so that the head rises up and then flops back down.
Watch Out For
This fight is really about taking a minute to clear goons, then no more than a minute to bull rush the boss. If he recovers after tummy tickles and head bops, this strategy goes out the window. All I can say is: go back to the tummy and hope… I couldn’t even tell you what all his attacks are (or how to avoid them) because I wasn’t watching them. If I wanted to win I had to just go for him.
The main thing is to avoid an attack as you leave the stairwell on the way to his tummy. Do that, and then focus only on doing as much damage to his midsection as you can and watch for the head drop.
In Other Words
- Kill the spectators
- Prep your items on the stairs
- Stab that tummy area fast
- Go for the head fast
Keep on Hunting!
